Shavertown tattoo artist, Ryan Malarkey, announced yesterday via her Facebook page that she’ll be a contestant on the upcoming eighth season of Spike TV’s “Ink Master.”

The new season, airing Aug. 23, brings in 30 artists and whittles the field down to 18 at which point the remaining contestants compete for the title of ink master.

Malarkey, who co-owns Kingston’s The Strange & Unusual oddities parlor, tattoos in the back of her business and said she specializes in feminine black and gray work with a focus on configuring art to the bodies she works on in a complementary way.

Malarkey said she can’t reveal anything about the upcoming season but did offer commentary on the honor of being involved.

“I’m beyond thrilled and truly humbled to be able to say that I got to be part of this experience,” Malarkey said. “Having been tattooing for only a few years, it’s crazy where hard work and dedication can get you. Of all the accomplishments I am proud of in my life, I can say ‘Ink Master’ is by far one of the most fulfilling.”

Malarkey said being able to show a glimpse of her talent to the world is an opportunity beyond her description and she’s forever thankful to all of her clients who trusted her with their skin as well as those who’ve been instrumental in her artistic growth.

“I’m excited for the premier and even more excited to represent my friends and family and all of NEPA,” she said.
