Movie Meow: ‘Devil’s Mouth’ is watchable at best

Could you ever envision a world where it is considered illegal to have pre-marital sex, with the exception of only one night of the year?

Two everyday New Yorkers each hit their own crossroads and decide to search for love on this coveted one night of the year. Or should I say lust? Starring Callum Turner (“The Boys in the Boat”) as Owen, a thirty-something pizza maker, whose girlfriend steps out of their relationship for the evening, leaving him empty and looking for fun. Enter the total cutie pie, Allie, played by Monica Barbaro (“Crime 101”), who is a singer for commercials, and like many, has not been the least bit lucky in love.

Already garnering $12 million worldwide for an R-rated adult romance, that proves audience approval is sitting rather pretty. Believe it or not, the director decided at the last minute to cut most of the intimate scenes from the final production, as he felt they would have only distracted from the otherwise adorable film.

Along for the ride are 80s teen sensation Molly Ringwald (“Pretty In Pink”) playing a parent, still carrying her own pulse, proving that being a member of the after-50 club doesn’t mean you are dead, alongside her own treat for the evening, LeVar Burton (“Reading Rainbow”).

“One Night Only” will ultimately be remembered for the charming chemistry between its two attractive leads. Let this film be a welcome reminder to us all; don’t wait for just one special night to show those loved ones just how much we care! Just like Owen’s mouth-watering pizza-making skills in the film, always remember, “The secret is in the sauce.”
