I’d Tap That: Hi-5 IPA is a West Coast style specialty from Terrapin Brewery

Glassware: Well brewed IPAs are full of hoppy aroma and a glass to capture that aroma is always called for when looking to enjoy the beer to its utmost potential. The Spiegelau IPA glass is the best choice for the beer while a tulip or Willi Becher pub glass serves the beer quite well.

Description: Hi-Five IPA pours an amber orange hue with great clarity and frothy white head that leaves behind a thick lacing on the glass. The aroma is filled with hops in the citrus and tropical fruits with a touch of pine, firmly backed with subtle hints of malts underneath, definitely more hop forward in the nose though. The taste follows suit, but showcases the balance within the beer. The hops wash over the palate bringing with it strong punches of grapefruit, tangerines, melon and pine before soothing semi-sweet malts caress the palate and leave behind an excellent bone dry finish. The medium body and moderate carbonation are perfect for delivering this crisp, refreshing, and very pleasantly assertive IPA. Hi-5 IPA touts itself as a West Coast styled IPA, while it may not be as dank as many other West Coast IPAs it is unbelievably refreshing and is a great go to beer, especially in the warmer months.

Food pairing: Hi-5 IPA is great with a spectrum of spicy foods. Anything in the Mexican or Indian delicacies is a perfect match. This beer has a depth of flavor that should be experimented with to full experience. The strong citrus hop notes with backing of pine and semi-sweet bready malts make a perfect pairing with goat cheese and cranberry ravioli topped with fresh Pecorino cheese. The creaminess of the cheese will melt into the body while the subtle acidity of the cranberries gravitates toward the hops and the wonderful carbonation will cleanse the palate and leave behind a bone dry finish that invigorates the palate. This is a fantastic brunch beer, specifically omelets. Try pairing this with a bacon and cheddar filled omelet that will get any day off to a good start! The pairings with a beer of this caliber are endless and experimentation is recommended!

The Final Word: Terrapin brews world class beers. They are a staple in craft beer stores and bars with many loyal followers. However, in this fast growing market, staples can be overlooked as new, sexier beers enter the fray. Terrapin has stayed the course though and stuck to brewing delicious balanced beers full of flavor. This decision to brew great balanced beers is a reward for all craft beer drinkers who love great beer. Terrapin still pushes the boundaries and is not afraid to experiment. Hi-5 IPA is a beer that all hop lovers will want to have in their fridge and is a phenomenal go-to canned beer for any outdoor adventures this spring.
