It’s been many years since the release of a “Mega Man” game and most people have given up hope for a new game in classic series. “Mega Man Legacy Collection” is not a new game but it is a remastered collection of “Mega Man” 1 through 6 with updated graphics and is a loving tribute to the Blue Bomber.

Years ago there was a Mega Man remastered collection released on the PS2 and GameCube but the buttons where backwards which made the gameplay hard and it didn’t have any real features. “Mega Man Legacy Collection” is the most faithful reproduction of this classic series and is a must play for fans of the series or anyone looking to see what all the hype is about.

The graphics in “Mega Man Legacy Collection” are pretty much the same as the original, they are still 8-bit but they have been sharpened. You can now switch between view modes such as wide screen, full screen or normal. The music has always been one of the best parts of the series and all of the songs have been recreated.

If you have never played a “Mega Man” game you have missed out on some of the best action platforming ever released. There isn’t a ton of story, Dr. Light created a bunch of robots to help society with a bunch of tasks like cutting down trees, digging, and many other things but they where corrupted by Dr. Wily. Mega Man was created to combat these now evil robot masters with his ability to jump, shoot and collect the powers of his fallen foes. At the end of each level you fight a boss. Each have their own weakness and you must figure out the best weapon to use to beat the other bosses.

Some of the most fun I have had playing this series is trying to figure out the correct order to play each level, it makes each level feel like a puzzle.

The story isn’t the reason to play the game, it’s the action. The platforming can be very challenging and some sections you need a special weapon to traverse the best path through the level. “Mega Man 1” was one of the most difficult games I can remember playing as a kid but now the new collection allows you to save your game so no more writing down and memorizing passwords. It’s still pretty tough and it definitely doesn’t hold your hand especially if you want to try out the new challenge modes, which remix gameplay elements from the first six games in fun ways.

Also for the first time there are Playstation trophies and Xbox achievements you can earn by completing challenges. Some of the challenge modes are remixes there is also speed runs and other challenges that really breathe new life into the classic game play.

Along with being able to replay some of my favorite games of all time there is also a ton of unlockables you can earn. “Mega Man Legacy Collection” contains a museum of all things Mega Man. There is concept art and, my favorite thing, a bestiary which gives the names and stats on all the enemies you encounter in each game. It’s not something important but it’s fun to see what all the names are.

I love the “Mega Man Legacy Collection.” I am a Mega Man fanatic and loved being able to replay these classic games in all of its glory. It is great having them all in one downloadable collection. This is a great value, too. All six parts are only $15. Not only can you play the games but you can also try the remix challenge modes and unlock a metric ton of extra content for the fans.

“Mega Man Legacy Collection” is an amazing tribute to a one of the best series of all time.
