If she raises $5,000, local woman will shave her head ‘for the kids’
WILKES-BARRE TOWNSHIP — Many people become involved raising money for the fight against cancer through the annual Relay For Life.
But one local woman, Marci Filippini of Redner’s 55 Kickin’ Cancer To The Curb has decided to go further.
If she can raise $5,000 by June 11, the day of the local Relay For Life fund-raiser that will be held at King’s College Athletic Field, she is willing to have her head shaved and send the hair to an organization called Wigs for Kids that makes wigs for children 18 and younger who are dealing with hair loss from certain medical conditions.
“I am issuing a challenge and asking for a favor,” she wrote on her Go Fund Me account, which can be viewed at gofundme.com/rflwfk.
“I know with your help we can make this dream a reality,” she wrote. “Please find it in your heart to donate to this cause. Whether it be a penny or a buck, every little bit will help to reach the goal. AND don’t worry, if you want to see my hair go to Wigs for Kids you are more than welcome to come see it being done and make sure to bring a camera!
Whether Filippini hits the $5,000 mark or not, any money she raises will go toward the American Cancer Society, event leader Sara Klinges wrote in a news release from Relay For Life of Wyoming Valley.
