Vibraphonist Matt Hoffmann to perform Sept. 30 at University of Scranton
SCRANTON — Performance Music at The University of Scranton will present vibraphonist Matt Hoffmann “In Recital” at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 30, in the University’s Houlihan McLean Center at the corner of Mulberry Street and Jefferson Avenue. Admission to the recital is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:45 p.m. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis.
Hoffmann is a jazz vibraphonist and drummer who has his roots in Northeastern Pennsylvania. A graduate of Honesdale High School, he attended Purchase College SUNY, earning bachelor of music and master of music degrees in Jazz Studies. A student of pianist Mark Shane and vibraphonist Ted Piltzecker, Hoffmann released his first solo recording “Daydream” in 2006. His first recording as a bandleader, “Communion,” was released in 2014. Hoffmann is also a featured sideman on a number of other recordings, including Mark Shane’s “Royal Swing” and Dan Levinson’s “Four on The Floor.”
Hoffmann has performed throughout the United States with noted swing musicians including Dan Levinson, Mark Shane, Allan Vache and Dave Bennett, playing Lincoln Center, The Blue Note, Jazz Fest at Sea, The Summit Jazz Festival (Colorado), The Jazz Corner (South Carolina), The Carpenter Performing Arts Center (California) and The Bickford Theater (New Jersey), among other venues.
