PLAINS TWP. — A local show reunites members of several regional and nationally known acts under the band name Tom Cruise Jump at one of the Wyoming Valley’s long-running club venues.
Music begins at 10 p.m. Sept. 23, at the River Street Jazz Cafe, 667 N. River St., with opening act Lesson One setting the table for Tom Cruise Jump.
The Tom Cruise Jump performance brings together A.J. Jump of King Radio and formerly of local band The Five Percent, bassist Brian Keeting and guitarist/vocalist Neil Nicastro of The Five Percent and vocalist/guitarist Dustin Switzer, currently of the RJ Scouton Band and formerly of The Five Percent.
The one-night-only performance features a set of covers throughout several decades of music by artists like Sting, Peter Gabriel, Pearl Jam, Dave Matthew Band and more.
There is a suggested donation of $5 to hear Tom Cruise Jump play.
The opening act, Lesson One, features artists Steve Husted, Kevin Callahan and Andrew Sleboda. According to a news release from Tom Cruise Jump, both The Five Percent and Lesson One were well-known in the region and throughout the Eastern Seaboard and other areas of the country. Switzer, the link between the two groups, played bass in both bands for an extended period of time.
In coming up with a band name for the rare performance, Switzer called the band The Jump after drummer A.J. Jump, but he changed the group moniker to Tom Cruise Jump after fans of the artists got the wrong impression that it was a Van Halen tribute.
