Be daring Open Mic. Free! Comedians, poets, musicians — if it needs a mic, you can do it openly at Aug. 31’s Be Daring Open Mic, held from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Adezzo, the coffee shop at 515 Center St., Scranton. Sign ups begin at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call 570-955-0130.
Retro Movie Night. $8. At 7 p.m. Sept. 1, Circle Drive In Theatre will host a retro movie double-feature of ’80s thriller “Runaway Train” and ’60s war film “The Train.” Movies start at dusk at the theatre’s 1911 Scranton Carbondale Hwy, Dickson City location and proceeds benefit Lackawanna Historical Society. To Boldly Go. Free! “Star Trek” is turning 50, and Scranton bar The Keys is throwing a birthday party befitting a pop culture classic. From 6 p.m. until 2 a.m., the bar will host a number of Trek-themed art pieces at its 244 Penn Ave., Scranton location, and may also have a few special menu items themed after the adventures of the Starship Enterprise crew. Railfest. $7 to $24. Learn about railroad equipment and celebrate Scranton’s railroad heritage at Steamtown National Historic Site’s Railfest. The Sept. 3 through Sept. 5 event includes in-yard rides for $5 (children 6 and under ride free), excursions to Moscow for $17 to $24 and demonstrations of railroad equipment and preservation methodology.
