Things to do in New York City this weekend
Cinderella: New York City Center is presenting Jean-Christophe Maillot’s ballet, Cinderella, on the Main Stage from Feb. 18-20. Maillot, director of Les Ballets de Monte Carlo, choreographed this unique interpretation of Cinderella, where Cinderella’s mother returns from the dead to become her fairy godmother. Using the music of Prokofiev, this ballet takes out all the sweetness of the Disney film and returns the story to its darker roots. There may not be a glass slipper, but nevertheless this is a must see performance. Tickets begin at $50. For more information, visit www.nycitycenter.org.
Chaka Khan: Grammy Award-winning musician, Chaka Khan, is performing at Brooklyn’s Kings Theater at 9 p.m. Feb. 19. Khan sings in multiple genres, from R&B to country to classical. She will perform with Philadelphia’s Vivian Green, a talented singer and songwriter. Tickets start at $57. For more information, visit www.kingstheatre.com.
