WILKES-BARRE — Ice skate for a good cause during this upcoming holiday season as Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza will host its 12th annual Open Skate to benefit the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program on Dec. 3 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Patrons must bring a new, unwrapped toy or a $5 donation, and they will be allowed to skate on the ice at the arena. This is the only day of the year the public is allowed to skate where the Penguins play their home games.

All participant must bring their own skates and must wear skates on the ice. A limited number of rentals will be available at the Toyota SportPlex on Coal St. in Wilkes-Barre for $3 per pair starting at 4 p.m. on Dec. 2. Photo ID and credit card must be presented to rent skates, and all skates must be returned within 24 hours of the end of the open skate.

The first 500 people to hit the ice will receive a complimentary color changing cup courtesy of NBT Bank. Guests will have the opportunity to win tickets and other promotional items from select Mohegan Sun Arena events, and snacks will be provided for those in attendance courtesy of Utz.
