American Freedom Festival: Free! A weekend of amusement rides, games, music, food court, merchandise vendors and fireworks on the Fourth of July — the perfect all-American day. Scrantastic Spectacular: Philharmonic and Fireworks: Free! Great weather, great music, great city. Head to the patriotic concert by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic followed by fireworks at dusk. Courthouse Square, downtown Scranton. 7:30 p.m. July 3. For more info call 570-341-1568.

Wyoming Monument Commemorative Observance: Free! Sometimes you need to take a minute from the brews, barbecues and craziness to pay tribute.Beginning at 10 a.m. on July 4, the annual Fourth of July ceremony with speakers, floral tributes and music will take place at the Wyoming Monument National Historic Site, Wyoming Avenue, Wyoming. An Old-Fashioned Fourth: Free! Take a step back in time and celebrate Independence day in the city of Wilkes-Barre. The annual celebration with food and craft vendors, rides and games and a patriotic concert by the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic followed by fireworks will take place starting at noon on July 4 at Kirby Park. Covington Fire Company Picnic, with Saturday fireworks, amusement rides, food stands, parade on Thursday night, DJ music on Wednesday and Thursday, and live music by The Fallen (Friday) and Farmer’s Daughter (Saturday).
