Dear Melissa,

My family does not like my new boyfriend, because they were very attached to my ex. I want to bring him to Easter dinner, but I am afraid they won’t give him a chance. What do I do?

Bunny

Dear Bunny,

Explain to your family that the new guy has a lot of great qualities. Remind them that it is your life and you chose to move forward past your ex, so they need to as well. Sure, they liked the old guy, but they might love the new guy. If all else fails, encourage him to bring a delicious dessert; everyone loves dessert. Hopefully your family will see the reason you chose this fine specimen and will let go of the past. I’d forewarn your guy just in case. No one wants the awkward “pass the potatoes” exchange to include the ex’s name instead of the new guy’s!
