Advice from Melissa: Spite Cupid; be your own valentine

Print This Page

Dear Melissa,

Valentine’s Day is coming and I have been asked out to dinner by a guy I am not really attracted to. I really don’t want to spend the holiday alone so I am thinking of just accepting the date to give him a chance. Am I being selfish?

Cupidless

Dear Cupid,

Never date someone for personal gain; it always ends bad. Accept the date if you think you and him might work. Accept the date if you think there might be some sparks. Accept the date if you actually want to go out with him. Do not accept if you just don’t want to be alone on Valentine’s Day. Not everyone is coupled and I am sure you have some amazing single girlfriends to hang out with. So don’t think too much about the Hallmark Holiday. Be your own valentine, I hear you’re quite a catch!
