Hard work.

The thing about hard work is, well, it’s hard. And while I appreciate a solid 100 percent effort in life when it comes to fitness training, hard work is often taken to the extreme.

And with extreme fitness comes injuries.

Extreme fitness could be defined as a weight that is too heavy, performing too many reps, not taking enough rest between exercises, or too many consecutive training days without a day off. These are just a few examples.

Extreme training can lead to poor form, sloppy execution, and a shortened range of motion. We may satisfy our “hardcore gene” in our DNA by performing such routines, but we can’t forget the reason we started training in the first place – to not get injured.

It’s tempting to want to dial it up in the gym hoping to shed that unwanted body fat, especially with the nicer weather approaching. However, let’s not forget that it’s near impossible to out-train a bad diet. You’ll have greater success training within your ability, keeping full range of motion, and with appropriate exercises for your body type.

Combine that with a better eating strategy and I can guarantee you’ll have great success. One of the problems is that you may not know exactly where or how to start.

Need a solution? Excellent, because Leverage Fitness Studio (900 Rutter Ave., Kingston) has one for you.

On April 23 at 7 p.m., there will be a fitness and nutrition seminar on everything and anything fitness related. There will be topics presented on how to get started, what the best exercises are, how to avoid plateaus, how many days per week you should exercise, how to lose stubborn fat around the midsection, the best types of foods to eat, eating on the run, and so much more.

It’s called the “Precision Fitness” seminar and it’s our fourth consecutive year putting it on.

Invest a little time, a little money (the cost is just $20 at the door), and learn everything you need to know and more.

Training smart is what you’re after, and staying healthy is priority.

You can sign up at Leverage or by calling the studio at 570.338.2386.

Also, check out our booth this weekend at the NEPA Sports and Fitness Expo on April 12 and 13. Leverage will be holding a class at 3 p.m. on Saturday and will have all kinds of useful information at our booth. I hope to see you all there.
