It’s almost here. The event we’ve been anticipating.

The annual Model and Man of the Year party will commence on Friday, Oct. 24. By the end of the night we will know who will take the crown and tiara from Kirsten Johnson and Ana Bondar. Johnson and Bondar were last years’s Man and Model winners.

This year, Weekender is giving the Marco Polo room at The Woodlands Inn a club-like feel with a black, red and white themed party. Make sure you break out those ties, dust off those heels and dress to impress. The party, as always, is open to the public and there is no cost to attend. You must be 18 to party, and obviously, 21 to drink.

The night is sure to be a good time, with DJKazz pleasing the crowd with some great sets to keep everyone dancing. Guest appearances by local artists Lauren Liparulo and Jean Peter Exantus, (Jeanius) will take place throughout the evening. The night will also be filled with some sweet and flashy surprises, and of course, the surprise that everyone anticipates — announcing the winners.

Bondar said nothing can really prepare people to hear their names announced as winners.

“It was a complete shock,” she said.

Bondar said she wasn’t expecting to hear her name called. She said she posed for model of the week to help out during a slow month.

Johnson said he’s someone who doesn’t take himself too seriously and definitely didn’t have his hopes set on winning.

“I honestly didn’t think anything of it. I take these things with a grain of salt and I thought it would be a popularity contest,” he said.

Bondar had similar sentiments.

“I wasn’t even going to stay that long at the party, but I was having so much fun at the photo booth taking pictures,” she said. “Then I heard that I made the top five and I was really surprised. It was really a cool feeling because it was so unexpected.”

Unexpected and crowd determined.

Pictures of all the men and models are online and appear in the next several pages. The public is invited to cast a vote for who they think is the hottest. Another round of live voting will happen at The Woodlands Inn and then the top 12 will be determined. They will then face the judges and compete against each other for the coveted title.

Don’t wait to long to cast your vote. Voting ends at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 22 (tonight).

What’s in it besides a crown and bragging rights?

Some local businesses have donated great prizes including a scholarship to Barbizon Modeling School and Development Center, a thrilling ride from Stockcar Racing Experience at Pocono Raceway, gift certificates from TGI Fridays, Star Tresses, Stir Nightclub, The Woodlands, NEPA Tattoo Club, Lucky’s Sportshouse, Ooh La La, Rodano’s, My Lower End, Tanfastic and Kings.

Judges for the evening include Melissa Hughes, Weekender’s Girl Talk columnist; Kelly Stettler, owner of Ooh La La Boutique and a sponsor of the Man and Model feature; Deborah Desiderio, executive director of Barbizon; Bondar and Johnson, last year’s winners.

Everyone is invited to dance, drink, laugh and vote at the annual Weekender Model of the Year party.
