Montage Mountain Ski Resort has been providing fun and leisure in northeastern Pennsylvania since 1984 and is anxious to celebrate its 30th anniversary with the public.

“So many people have learned to ski here. This is where I learned to ski. So many people have grown up coming to the mountain and that’s why being around for 30 years is such a big deal to us. We wanted to thank our supporters and find a way to celebrate this milestone with our loyal guests,” said Montage Mountain’s director of sales and marketing, Sarah Farrell.

Montage will be kicking off a series of celebratory events including an anniversary party, an additional 1980s-throwback party and a social media scavenger hunt with more than $20,000 in giveaways.

“Montage has brought so much growth to this area, being the first project developed on the mountain. It was built for the community as a non-profit recreational activity facility and has evolved into a year-round family attraction that includes skiing in the winter and visiting the water park in the summer,” Farrell said.

Too often, people denounce the area by asserting there is a lack of things to do Farrell said. The Pittston native credits the inception of Montage Mountain to revitalizing NEPA with shops, restaurants, hotels and a movie theater following in the footsteps and expanding jobs and businesses.

“We wouldn’t be where we are today without the support of the people and businesses throughout northeastern Pennsylvania,” Farrell acknowledged.

Montage Mountain plans to recognize the local businesses and members of the community that attributed to the success and growth of the mountain over the years through a social media scavenger hunt on Friday, Dec. 5.

“We are giving away 30 unlimited season passes in honor of our 30 years in business. They’re $700 a piece. That’s a $21,000 value,” Farrell said.

Throughout the day of the scavenger hunt, the community is encouraged to visit Montage Mountain’s Facebook page to search for a clue leading them to a business in northeastern Pennsylvania. The first person to arrive at the location of the clue will be given a “golden-ticket, so to speak” and instructed to take a picture with it to post on social media using #JourneyTo30.

“Each of the locations will be places that have supported us throughout the years and a way for us to promote them while giving back to our guests,” Farrell said.

Keeping with tradition of hosting Third Thursday adult parties each month, Montage will be also be celebrating its 30th anniversary with an ’80s party on Thursday, Dec. 18, paying tribute to the early years on the mountain.

“I’m so excited for the ’80s party. We’re going to have prizes for the people who have the highest hair and best outfits. Everything is kicking off, though, with our big anniversary party on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m.,” Farrell said.

While the mountain is going full-throttle with the theme of kickin’ it old school, Montage is also looking forward to the future.

“This will be our first full season with airboarding as an activity. Guests now have the option to ride an inflatable sled on our open ski course. It’s brand new to the area. The closest place to offer this is in Vermont,” Farrell said.

After aiding growth and revitalization to northeastern Pennsylvania for 30 years, bringing new jobs, businesses, attractions and fun to the region, Montage Mountain is looking forward to what the next 30 years will bring.
