Who

…is celebrating the release of their brand new album this week?

The Menzingers are coming home to NEPA for an all-ages unplugged album release show at the Gallery of Sound (186 Mundy St., Wilkes-Barre) tonight at 7 p.m.

Buy “Rented World” on CD or vinyl to get a wristband for priority and guaranteed entry to see the show and meet the band. Wristbands are available at all Gallery of Sound stores, and attendees can win one of 10 white label gray splatter test pressings that night!

In addition, the Weekender is teaming up with Gallery of Sound to give away another one of these limited edition records, so visit facebook.com/theweekender and “like” the page for details and a chance to win!

What

…can you do to further help out a theater company in need? It’s simple: head out for some ice cream!

As was highlighted in a recent issue of the Weekender, the KISS Theatre Company is being evicted from its current location at the Wyoming Valley Mall, so the troupe of child and teenage actors is looking to relocate and renovate. The group is teaming up with several area businesses to raise funds, and the latest fundraiser is with Sprinkles & Shakes Ice Cream and Grill (1306 N. River Rd., Plains Twp.).

On April 27 from 1 to 5 p.m., the kids of KISS will be serving up tasty treats to patrons of Sprinkles & Shakes. A portion of the profit from that day will go right to KISS, and some of the budding actors and actresses will also be walking around with donation cans throughout the day.

Where

…can you go to help raise funds to benefit the Susan G. Komen NEPA Race for the Cure?

The first annual Golf for the Cure will be held May 5 at the Scranton Municipal Golf Course with a 10 a.m. shotgun start. It’s $360 per team and $90 per individual in a captain ‘n’ crew format. Hole Sponsorships are available for $50 per hole. For more info, call 570.677.7510.

On May 18, the first “Shoot Down Breast Cancer” Clay Bird Shoot will take place at the Factoryville Sportsman Club from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Admission is free, but there is a cost to shoot or eat. Eye and ear protective gear is required when shooting. If you’re not shooting, there are other activities to enjoy throughout the day while supporting a good cause.

When

…can you help raise awareness for asthma and other lung diseases? Join the American Lung Association for its 12th Annual Wilkes-Barre Fight for Air 5K Run and Walk.

The event takes place June 7 at the Kings’ College Betzler Fields (221 Highland Park Blvd., Wilkes-Barre), and registration and check-in begins at 9 a.m., with the race and walk starting at 10.

Each participant that runs in the 5k pays a $25 registration fee. Those who walk in the event are not required to pay a registration fee. This year, the ALA-PA’s goal is to raise $60,000 for prevention, research, and advocacy programs, such as Better Breathers Support Groups, asthma camps for children, “Lunch and Learn” programs for businesses, and other school-based programs.
