There is little in this world that is better than great rock ‘n’ roll. Well, possibly finding that perfect someone to spend the rest of your life with. You might be asking yourself what the result might be if the two were to collide. The answer, quite simply, is Sinner Sinners. This band, out of Los Angeles by way of France, was formed by Steve and Sam Thill, and they are taking their punk influenced, no-nonsense rock to the masses with their new release, “XI.”
It is hard to put a finger on the album as a whole. There is a lot to like about it; the sound is amazing, the vocals are great, and more importantly, it’s simply no-frills rock ‘n’ roll. For whatever reason, it is just hard to put that into words. There is no gimmick, no pretention to the music on this album. “Modern Man” starts the album off with a sound reminiscent of Social Distortion instrumentally. The happy couple sings lead and backing vocals, but on “Darkness Forever,” Sam takes full reign on lead vocals. It is a refreshing change of pace and doesn’t feel out of place in the slightest. Another great track is “Rise Up,” which has more hardcore influences in tone and sound than straight-up punk rock.
Overall, the album is invigorating. It is good to know that there are bands that are paying respect to the genre like Sinner Sinners is doing. They are doing right by every rock fan with their blistering tracks, infectious drums, and killer guitar solos. “XI” may only be their sophomore album, but they sound like they have what it takes to be around for years to come. For the love of rock ‘n’ roll, let’s all hope that’s the case.
