The geeks invaded Montage Mountain this past weekend and left triumphantly. These geeks may not be the stereotypical bespectacled, pocket protector-wearing, comic book-reading ones you have in your mind, though. No, these geeks were the Beer Geeks, and they took over Montage Mountain with the inaugural Beer Geek Festival on April 12.

The festival was billed as a premium beer festival, and those in attendance certainly were quick to realize this fact. Many attendees were overheard making statements of disbelief at just how many great breweries and beers were together in one place at one time.

Breweries such as Dogfish Head were in attendance and pouring some of its most sought-after beers, such as Noble Rot and 120 Minute IPA, and they had a continuous line of fans throughout the festival.

Deschutes Brewery was another true highlight of the festival, as it is not currently available for purchase in the area, but the company made a special appearance just for the festival. The brewery was a true showcase, and those who tried their Fresh Squeezed IPA were quick to proclaim it one of the best IPAs at the festival, which was no easy feat when considering the other beers in attendance.

Stone Brewing Co. was also in attendance, pouring Enjoy By 4.20.14 and Reason Be Damned, a beer that has never been made available outside of the San Diego brewery.

Tröegs Brewing Company was there as well and brought a special batch of Naked Elf, which is a version of the wildly popular Mad Elf and also one that quickly disappeared.

There were so many fantastic breweries at this festival: Founders, Victory, Brewery Ommegang, BrewDog, Chimay, Breaker Brewing Company, 3 Guys & A Beer’d, Green Flash, and on and on.

Another true highlight of this festival was the fact that it also gave back to the community, with $5 from every ticket sold going to Marley’s Mission, a local charity that provides equine-based therapy to children and their families who have experienced trauma.

The Beer Geeks have already proclaimed that there is much more to do and many more events coming in the near future. Whether you were able to attend this festival or not, it is best to stay in touch and tune in to the Beer Geeks Radio Hour every Saturday morning at 10 a.m. on Sports Hub 102.3 FM, because if there is one thing that those in attendance have learned, when the Beer Geeks plan an event, you do not want to miss it!
