Welcome to our special Trick or Treats section!
For the month of October, we are going to be sharing ideas for tasty Halloween-themed treats. Actually, today we are going to tell you how to whip up three super easy treats.
With a few simple ingredients, witch-hat cookies, Reese’s broomsticks, and Mint Peanut Butter Spiders were created.
Witch-hat cookies:
You will need:
• One bag of Hershey Kisses (your favorite flavor)
• One container of Thin Mints or another available cookie
• Decorating icing
Start with your cookies. For the purpose of this article, I am using Great Value Fudge Mints from Walmart.
If, like me, that box of Thin Mints you put in the freezer during peak Girl Scout cookie season to ration off through the year has been gone since the day after they made it to the freezer, I highly recommend the Great Value brand. They mimic the aforementioned cookie almost exactly. You can also use Keebler’s Grasshoppers or any other cookie you desire. I’ve seen variations that used Oreos.
Take out the number of cookies you want, unwrap that number of Hershey’s Kisses, put a dab of icing on the cookie (enough that the icing will spread under the Hershey’s Kiss to make a brim), place Hershey’s Kiss on said cookie. Voila!
Reese’s broomsticks:
You will need:
• Stick pretzels
• Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups
Start by unwrapping the peanut butter cups. If your peanut butter cups have not been refrigerated and you find the chocolate coming off with the wrapper, put the candy in the freezer for about 10 minutes to let it harden. Place unwrapped peanut butter cups upside down on a plate, and gently stick the pretzel in center.
Scrumptious candy witches brooms have been formed!
Mint Peanut Butter Spiders
• One container cookies
• Stick pretzels
• Decorative icing
• Peanut butter
This recipe is great because if you have peanut butter on hand, you can recycle the rest of the ingredients from the above snacks. I was a bit leery of how a mint cookie and peanut butter would taste. I tried the mixture before I began and was pleasantly surprised; the flavors blend nicely. If you’re still not sold, marshmallow fluff or icing can be substituted.
Take a cookie and place a dollop of peanut butter in the center. Break four pretzel sticks in half, line four halves on each side of the cookie. Take another cookie, place just enough peanut butter on cookie that it will adhere to the top of the section with pretzel legs on and stick them together. Finish your spider off with two red icing eyes.
There you have it: three insanely easy snacks that are perfect for a children’s school party and can even be served at the office. These treats disappeared faster than you can say trick or treat when shared with my coworkers.
